The Mad Judge A Sherlock Holmes Uncovered Tale Book 3 edition by Steven Ehrman Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Very much in style of originals. Good plot & good characters. He stays true to the genre without getting biring.
"The Mad Judge" is the second work written by Steven Ehrman that I have read, and it will not be the last. Ehrman's "Sherlock Holmes Uncovered Tales" are very good Holmes pastiches which hold to the style of the Holmes stories in character and plot. My only criticism would be a slight weakness in his diction of the Victorian period; additionally, there were quite a few characters to keep track of as one reads. Still, all in all, "The Mad Judge" is well written and well thought out; the plots and the characterizations are quite believable. "The Mad Judge" is a very clever mystery with a couple of plot twists thrown in to keep the reader thinking.

Dr. Watson has been invited to the country estate of an old friend of his, and Watson decides to take Holmes along for a much needed rest in the country. As you can guess, things do not work out quite that way, and Holmes and Watson are soon drawn into the disturbing question of the mental stability of the neighboring judge. Things quickly take a twist as the judge is discovered murdered in his locked study late in the evening, and now, as we all know, "the game is now afoot!" Holmes and Watson must now solution to this "locked room mystery." They weave their way through a complicated and confusing crime scene to solve the murder. Ehrman does provide the reader with unique solution; I found myself guessing and second guessing. I recommend the book, and I look forward to reading more of Ehrman's writings.
As a "all things Sherlock enthusiast" this is a must read!! I could hardly put thus book down!i an on buying the rest of these books
I have always been a fan of Sherlock Holmes. It was such a fantastic find when I stumbled across Steven Erhman...he is the closest writer to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle that I have found to date. Good writing, good book.
I would say this book is excellent. The interpretation of the main characters is not too sophisticated, yet perfectly credible. The author doesn't indulge in fanciful (and most often clumsy) guessing, as we find in some other pastiches. He also succeeds in rendering the atmosphere of Conan Doyle's stories and his plot is very well conceived. Only one reservation, concerning the editing more than the writer many punctuation marks are missing and some words are definitely misplaced, which is quite annoying. This last remark explains the 4 stars, not five...
In most of the mysteries we see or read today our hero has to be an action hero. The latest string of Sherlock Holmes movies have made him to be iron man in Victorian garb, but the old time mysteries of A. Conan Doyle or Agatha Christie the hero got his man because he out smarted him. This book is an old time mystery with suspects that never leave the house. Holmes unravels the truth to show that his reputation is deserving. This is a well written book that is well thought out and has all the questions tied up in a nice little package in the end. Steven Ehrman has shown in this and his other stories that he is one of the best of the pastiche writers. Keep up the good work.
I really liked this one, as the others in the series. Very entertaining, and provided everything I look for in a Sherlock Holmes Story. I was kept guessing toward the end, and it was fun to try to beat Holmes to the big reveal.

I would -really- suggest that they do go through these first three stories, as there are many instances of missing or misused punctuation. It really started to throw me out of the story every time I noticed a missing period, (or too many periods) and missing quote marks. Missing commas around names, in some cases, could give various meanings to the text, rather than the one I'm sure the author intended.

Great stories, just need more work to finish them up.
